Victory in the Sky

While researching this website, I used the “U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II Combat Chronology” to help me understand the complex system in which these airmen sacrificed so much.

I spent a fair amount of time making the data searchable, filterable, and sortable, thus making it easier to find specific details.

As a result, that effort turned into Victory in the Sky, where I dig deeper into the WW2 data. I hope to inspire others to explore and engage with this rich resource and help bring all the stories to life.

What is the Combat Chronology?

U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II Combat Chronology is a detailed chronological account of the operations and missions conducted by the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) throughout World War II. The official document meticulously outlines daily combat activities from 1941 to 1945, highlighting strategic bombing campaigns, aerial engagements, and support missions across multiple theaters of war, including Europe, the Pacific, and North Africa.

It provides insights into the scale and intensity of air operations, detailing specific targets, aircraft involved, and the broader impact on the war effort. The work serves as a valuable historical reference for understanding the role of air power in achieving Allied victory, offering a day-by-day breakdown of key missions and their significance in shaping the course of the war.

The purpose of Victory in the Sky is to generate renewed interest in the wealth of historical data found within the Combat Chronology, which Kit C. Carter and Robert Mueller carefully and laboriously compiled the chronology.

By making the Combat Chronology easier to sort and filter through, this project hopes to inspire others to explore this rich history and bring it to life in a relatable and meaningful way. Let’s continue to advocate for military history and freely share this valuable information. Check out my other website, Victory in the Sky.
